Got a question? Chances are you'll find the answer below.

We've collected the most common questions for you, so you can get straight back to hunting for that perfect doormat.

A moisture-absorbing doormat is designed specifically to soak up moisture. Its fibres are softer and more densely woven, so they absorb water well and keep your floor dry.

A dirt-scraping doormat, by contrast, is designed to sweep dirt and sand off your soles. This mat has coarser, sturdier fibres that brush the dirt loose before you step inside.

Always measure all four sides of the space where the mat will go, because walls and door frames are not always perfectly straight. If the spot has corners or an irregular shape, measure the maximum length and width of the recess. That way you can have the mat cut slightly larger and trim the corners yourself later, so it covers the space completely.

Think carefully about where the mat will be placed and how the space is used. A mat by the front door has to cope with more dirt and moisture than one in the hallway. Also pay attention to the floor: with a vinyl or poured floor, a plasticiser-free mat is important to prevent discolouration, while on a stone floor a standard anti-slip backing is sufficient. In a busy household or in wet weather, a mat with strong fibres and high water absorption is the best choice. Finally, choose the right type: a moisture-absorbing doormat for moisture, a dirt-scraping doormat for dirt, or a combination of both.

For a vinyl or poured floor, a plasticiser-free doormat is the best choice. This mat contains no plasticisers in its backing, so there is no risk of discolouration or a reaction with the floor. On these floor types, always use a plasticiser-free mat with an anti-slip backing, such as our Profit moisture-absorbing doormat, which is made specifically for vinyl and poured floors.

That depends a little on the type of mat, but in most cases:

  • Shaking it out or vacuuming is usually enough to remove dirt and dust.
  • Stubborn dirt? Use a damp cloth with a mild cleaning product.
  • Then let the mat air-dry thoroughly, preferably out of direct sunlight.

Please note: some doormats are not fond of washing machines or pressure washers — unless you want yours to retire early. If in doubt, check the product page or get in touch with us.

Yes, always. You can easily cut the mat to size with a sharp knife through the back of the mat, so it fits perfectly in the spot where you want it.

That is completely understandable! That is why you can order colour samples from us before you buy a full doormat. That way you can look at the samples at home first, feel them and compare them. This way you know for certain which colour and which material suit your interior and your floor best, and you always make the right purchase.
